The magnificent Mekong river, one of the longest rivers in Asia, winds gracefully past lush green paddy fields and tiny fishermen's villages in Vietnam and along to Cambodia's elaborate temples through its fascinating capital, Phnom Penh.

This excellent 17-day adventure includes a seven-night cruise along the Mekong in a Luxury Balcony suite aboard the Mekong Jewel, a luxurious and ornately-decorated ship. On board you'll find two dining venues, including an al-fresco venue on the deck, plus a swimming pool, spa, sauna and steam room, two lounges and a library.

You'll board the Mekong Jewel after spending two days in the frenetic Ho Chi Minh City, where you'll witness ancient history melding with the energetic present in Vietnam's largest city.

There'll be 13 excellent excursions included in your itinerary, all fully hosted by local, English-speaking experts.

In Phnom Penh you'll discover the harrowing and brutal history of the Khmer Rouge regime and the infamous Killing Fields. But as well as learning about Cambodia's dark past, you'll also get a chance to celebrate the country's bright future.

You'll meet children at a local school and local villagers in their homes, and have a rare opportunity to receive a water blessing from local Buddhist monks.

Discover the fascinating archaeological site of Angkor, where you'll see the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, including the world-famous temple complex of Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your tour ends in Hanoi, Vietnam, where you'll take a tour of the city, wandering its elegant boulevards lined with trees and grand buildings, spending a night in a luxury hotel before your flight home.

    Today, you'll witness the hustle and bustle of delta river life as the local traders take their produce to market. After breakfast, you'll board a traditional sampan(wooden river boat) and explore the narrow canals and backwaters of this famed region.

    There's an included excursion to the untouched island of Tien Loi, where you can see how local farmers make rooster cages, decorate bonsais in their yards and more.

    Upon arrival at Vinh Long, your sampans will bring you to a traditional rice factory. This evening, back on board, you'll dine on an authentic Vietnamese meal.

    Today you'll visit the local island village of Hong Ngu, a major producer of the traditional Khmer scarves located not far from the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Since they're woven in many homes around the village, you'll have the opportunity to see the process first-hand.

    You'll also stop at a local temple dedicated to a unique religion founded in this area of Vietnam, Hoa Hoa. Your last and most interesting visit of the day will be a visit to the local home of a retired VC General.
