WHAT WE LOVE...

The Pilot is nestled within a lovely little Georgian terrace of eight cottages - that looks a bit peculiar for being surrounded by the modern skyscrapers of North Greenwich. It's a cosy pub dating from 1801, and features surprisingly plush and funky rooms above its cosy and pleasant bar featuring exposed beams, nautical paintings, ship's wheels and the like.

The cottages have quite a history, being artisan housing originally built for workers at the nearby chemical works and tidal mill. They were featured in the famous video for Parklife by Blur, and renowned artist Damien Hirst lived in one for a while.

There's great transport links, and the bars, restaurants, cinemas and live events at the O2 are just minutes away.

Those seeking something out of the ordinary that combines a bit of history with the contemporary would love it here. The huge difference in room styles, from the sedate and relaxing to the wild and wacky, is a nice touch.

Food & Drink

We loved the lively bar on tap and the hearty breakfast including Eggs Benedict, Florentine and Royale, continental and full English. The slow-braised feather blade of beef with pak choi, spring onion, oyster mushroom, soy, ginger, chilli and sesame dressing was tasty and unusual.

The Pilot: traditional British pub with garden. Hearty fare, seasonal ingredients. All-day menu, open daily
