Hotel Review
Antica Torre Tornabuoni 1, Florence, Italy
Despite being on Florence's grandest shopping street, Via de' Tornabuoni - neighbours include Dior, Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zelda - you may well walk past this hotel as the brass nameplate is so discreet. And that sums up its style: elegantly old-fashioned and with a low-key glamour. Housed in two adjoining palazzi, one with a battlemented tower, rooms occupy the top two floors and offer a retreat from the bustling streets below. With their soft colours, parquet floors and sprinkling of antiques, they're quiet and spacious, some overlooking the River Arno. Meals are served in the rooftop dining room, also overlooking the river, or on one of Florence's finest rooftop terraces - both with stunning views of the river and Duomo.

Anybody who wants to be in central Florence, but away from the bustling crowds, and who appreciates the grace and elegance of a historic building will like it here. With its discreet entrance off the busy street, and its majestic proportions - the medieval tower is battlemented - it feels like you're are entering your own private palazzo.

Rooms
Rooms with views of both the river and the city's rooftops, are our favourites. Three of the rooms have balconies, which are a joy for gazing over the Florentine skyline. The spaciousness of each room, together with a lack of unnecessary clutter and ornaments, makes them calming retreats after the bustle of the city.
