Hotel Review
St Nicolas Bay Resort, Crete, Greece
This resort hotel located on the north-eastern coastline of Crete, around an hour's drive from Heraklion Airport, is reminiscent of a traditional Greek village. The pleasant port town of Agios Nikolaos and Elounda fishing village are nearby, but you'll probably not want to leave the choice of pools, private sandy beach, selection of restaurants and bars, watersports and lovely sea views on offer. There's also a gym and an impressive spa, and guest rooms and suites are supremely comfortable.

THE DETAILS
Location
The hike through the nearby gorge of Kritsá is lovely. With sheer rock faces either side, it takes around three hours.
On the north-eastern coastline, close to Agios Nikolaos and Elounda. We recommend visiting Spinalonga Island.

Style & Character
It's ideal for both families and couples. Guests are predominantly from the UK, US and Germany and the rest of Europe. There's a slight traditional Greek village feel, with things as its own chapel (common in Greek hotels) and kafeneion (a traditional-style café).
Service & Facilities
The hotel gives gifts to both children and adults at the end of their stay, which is a nice touch.

Rooms
Our room was bright, painted white with a marble bathroom. Amenities included a minibar, safe, white sofa, and a pretty terrace looking out to the sea. The highest category rooms are more secluded, being situated amongst gardens and birdsong - with sizeable gardens and a pool.

Food & Drink
We loved the live bouzouki music at the Greek Kafenion restaurant. At Blue Bay Restaurant, the fish of the day, carefully prepared and de-boned in front of you, was large and deliciously fresh.
The Club House: terrace restaurant, serving à la carte breakfast daily, 7:45-10:30am.
The Blue Bay: beach restaurant, Mediterranean cuisine and sushi. All-day dining, open daily.
Greek Kafenion: outdoor BBQ restaurant and Cretan cuisine. Tasting menu from €67.
