WHAT WE LOVE...

This stylish village inn, close to the A1 in mid-Northumberland, has just six large and classy bedrooms with designer touches, moody colours and swish bathrooms. Statement wallpapers, antiques, and free-standing baths make them ideal for countryside-lovers who enjoy their luxuries. The bar and restaurant - a series of little dining areas plus a conservatory - have a modern rustic look with scrubbed tables, exposed stone walls, the occasional sofa and sludgy country colours. There's a brisk local trade, too, for its upmarket pub classics and street-food options with an Asian influence, plus a good range of hand-pulled beers and locally distilled spirits. Dogs and children are welcome in some of the bedrooms.

Style & Character

People who want a countryside stay in a characterful pub but with style, should be happy here. The solid, no-nonsense rustic furniture, glammed up with the odd Chinese vase or antler candelabra gives it a hint of fun.

Service & Facilities

We love returning from a breezy walk along the coast to warm up with a drink at the bar while listening to the locals' crack, before going upstairs to change for dinner. Some bedrooms can take dogs - with a dog basket and treats available - and dogs are welcome in the bar.
